The Greek foreign minister, N.Kotzias stated that the intelligence which indicates that the military forces which are occupying part of Cyprus took part in the attempted coup in the Turkish mainland is a further reason for their evacuation from the island.
At the same time, along with the evacuation, N.Kotzias has also requested the abolishment of the anachronistic “assurance” system.
In his statement, the foreign minister mentioned that “The intelligence which is coming to publicity concerning the involvement of the leading officers of the occupying forces of Cyprus in the coup attempt in Turkey, further confirm and strengthen our stable position that the abolishment of the anachronistic “assurance” system and the withdrawal of the occupying forces are crucial prerequisites for a solution of the Cypriot problem”.
