After the region was hit by destructive rainfalls over the weekend, many villages were cut off from the main water supply. The municipal authorities and the regional water company had secured enough supplies of bottled water which however needed to be distributed.

For this task, many Greek volunteers showed up but also tens of Syrians refugees from the nearby camp joined forces with them to help get water to homes that were cut off at the mountain villages of the area.

The municipal authority thanked the refugees with an official statement on Sunday, saying: “From the horrors of war, to volunteering their services to the flooded villages of the Municipality of Trikala. From bombs and bloodshed, to devastated livelihoods. Volunteerism, the act of giving and concern for our fellow man triumphed on Saturday”.
